A national online and telephone support service for carers is proving popular. The Carers Gateway was launched in late 2015 to provide assistance to Australia’s 2.7 million carers and is now averaging 800 calls for help every month. Designed as a one-stop-shop for time-poor carers it offers advice and information on counselling, respite and access to government assistance. This includes tips from financial planning to safety in the home. Earlier this year a Facebook page was launched to help foster the carer community.
Assistant Minister for Social Services, Jane Prentice said the customer satisfaction rate is greater than 90 per cent.
