Hear this – new provider for hearing services

Federal Government announces new clinics offering hearing checks and affordable hearing aids. SpecSavers Audiology has been accredited through the Federal Government’s hearing services program which supports people with a range of fully or partially subsidised services. The services include hearing assessments, advice and support and assistance with fitting the appropriate hearing aids.

Minister for Aged Care, Ken Wyatt, said the network of clinics would eventually expand its services to 200 clinics nationally.  He said it is hoped more people would take advantage of the service and have hearing tests as research shows only one-third of those with hearing loss do something about it. “One in six Australians currently experience some sort of hearing loss, and this figure is expected to increase to one in four by 2050,” the minister said.

A recent report estimates the economic and social costs of hearing loss runs into billions of dollars a year.
