Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) provider Good Housing is on track to deliver its latest project in Macquarie Fields, NSW with the launch of two properties at the one address.
Good Housing has been creating purpose-built smart and sustainable since 2019, and this latest project will be the eighth location among Good Housing’s growing stable of SDA properties, that will be home to eight tenants.
Good Housing CEO and co-founder, Antony Anisse, said the need for bespoke housing is high with demand continuing to grow. According to the NDIS, SDA requirements will have increased from about 22,900 participants in June 2022 to approximately 36,700 by June 2042.
“Currently there is in excess of 7,720 dwellings enrolled for SDA with the capacity to support 20,400 participants. However, a high proportion of these are existing government-built group homes in need of major refurbishment or total redevelopment to be fit for purpose as per new recommendations handed down by the Royal Commission.
“Although SDA demand is high throughout Australia, the need for suitable housing in the Campbelltown region is at critical levels. More than 185 locals with extreme disabilities have a need for SDA,” he said.
Good Housing has partnered with a local Supported Independent Living provider and the Royal Rehab Group and Breakthru, a leading not-for-profit provider of rehabilitation and disability support services, coming on board too.
Royal Rehab Group and Breakthru CEO Matt Mackay said Good Housing’s contemporary accommodation is a blueprint for the future. “These homes are a fantastic example of what great supported accommodation should look like. The thoughtful design, advanced technology, and a mix of private and shared spaces play a big role in promoting independence,” he said.
The new homes feature two one-bedroom high physical support villas adjoining two-resident houses. Each home can be further customised to suit individual needs of the residents and feature the latest smart home technology for controlling lights, blinds and air-conditioning, access doors and video intercom.
Good Housing has up to 30 new homes in the pipeline across NSW and Victoria metropolitan and regional areas.
Homes are available to people aged between 18 and 64 years with a disability. The SDA funding in tenants’ NDIS plan will be paid to Good Housing. In addition, tenants pay a Reasonable Rent Contribution, which is 25 per cent of their Disability Support Pension (or equivalent), and 100 per cent Commonwealth Rent Assistance.
