Children’s singer Emily Who, is putting on new interactive and inclusive children’s concert, A Day for Adventure at The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Parramatta, Sydney.
Full of catchy songs and fun, the performance takes the audience on a journey under the sea, to a farm, to the jungle, and back in time to dance with the dinosaurs.
The shows are presented as calming performances, designed to reduce anxiety and create a supportive atmosphere for patrons with autism spectrum conditions, intellectual impairment, learning disability and other sensory and communication needs. There is a relaxed attitude to traditional theatre etiquette too, such as noise and movement amongst the audience. Doors to the theatre are also left open to allow audience members to enter and exit as needed with light and sound effects toned down or removed. An Auslan interpreter will interpret the spoken words and sound effects, enabling D/deaf patrons who use Auslan to engage with the concert.
Emily regularly performs in festivals, including the Sydney Fringe Festival and Riverside Theatres Spot On Children’s Festival, and has performed with Bluey and Paw Patrol at Sydney Zoo, and also created two web-series, the Kids Couch Concert Series and Musical Pirate Adventures. She volunteers for Storyville and Books In Homes, regularly reading stories for young children.
Show details are: June 21-22: suitable for ages 0-5 years: 45 minutes duration, with no interval.
