Matt Formston, a surfer with disability, stands on a beach with a surfboard behind him. He is bald and wearing a blue tshirt.

World champion surfer and Paralympian Matt Formston is the ambassador and keynote speaker for the My Future, My Choice Disability Expo 2024.

Diagnosed with macular dystrophy at age five, Formston will share some of the processes that have enabled him to succeed at the highest level – in and out of the water.

Formston also features in a new documentary, The Blind Sea, premiering on August 15 that follows him around the world including breaking the monster waves of Nazaré Portugal. It carries insights from world champions surfers Layne Beachley and Joel Parkinson, author Sam Bloom and big wave legends Dylan Longbottom and Lucas ‘Chumbo’ Chianca.

Over the past seven years, My Future, My Choice Disability Expo series has connected tens of thousands of individuals with disability services and supports. It is the largest Disability Expo program in Australia, with hundreds of product and service providers, together with informative and interactive presentations delivered by industry experts.

The Sydney Disability Expo will be held at Sydney Olympic Park from August 2-3.
