Disability organisations will come together this Thursday for a LGBTQIA+ Mardi Gras float build day.

Participants will enjoy a flag raising-ceremony, costume making, sign designing, float decoration and, of course a rainbow cake.

Around 30-40 per cent of people with disability identify as LGBTQIA+. This event will bring together Northcott, Cerebral Palsy Alliance and Afford. The three organisations have teamed up to represent LGBTQIA+ people with disability at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival and Parade on Saturday March 1.

Given this year’s Mardi Gras theme, ‘Free to Fly’, the float and costume built day is a chance for LGBTQIA+ customers from each of the three organisations to come together and celebrate inclusivity and pride.

The float will include a large pair of wings moulded on to a rainbow love heart, signifying a free flying butterfly. On Thursday, customers will put together posters for the parade participants and assemble side banners for the float which will show off a mix of icons that represent a wide range of disabilities.

The craft event will be held Thursday February 13, 10am-2pm at Northcott Parramatta Courtyard, 1 Fennell St, Parramatta.
