The 2025 Nepean Disability Expo ambassador has been announced: musician Mick Sattin, AKA Mick on Wheels

Sattin contracted meningitis at just two days old, resulting in lower-body paraplegia.

Since then he has faced more health challenges, including hydrocephalus, a condition caused by abnormal build-up of cerebral spinal fluid in the brain. He’s had multiple surgeries over the years to treat the condition, including one just last year which he almost didn’t survive.

Now though, he works as an NDIS support coordinator and musician. He’s been singing for almost 30 years, spanning genres like rock, pop, R&B, jazz, blues and funk, and has shared the stage with icons like Human Nature, Air Supply lead guitarist Rex Goh and Guy Sebastian.

In 2014, he earned a rare standing ovation from all four X-Factor judges in front of a crowd of 5000 people.

Through his performances, Sattin aims to create unforgettable moments, spread positive vibes and unite people through music.

At this year’s expo, he will take to the stage to share his incredible story accompanied by a musical performance.

“I love making a difference in people’s lives and make them feel good about themselves.  There’s a lot of people out there with disabilities that struggle…if I can inspire them through my music, then that makes me incredibly happy,” he said.
