A pilot study to evaluate the transition of children with autism to primary school has been announced. The study is part of a larger project to assess early intervention outcomes for children with autism intended to lay the groundwork to develop evidence-based guidelines for best practice.
The minister responsible for disability, Senator Mitch Fifield said $278,000 has been allocated to Autism Cooperative Research Centre at LaTrobe University. This was in addition to $16 million in funding for Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centres announced in March.
“The research will provide valuable insight into what makes a successful transition to school for children with autism,” Senator Fifield said.
