Australians are encouraged to nominate unpaid carers and foster/kinship carers for the National Carer Awards. The awards, which recognise the significant contribution carers make to society and the economy, is a partnership between Carers Australia and Life Without Barriers and runs in every state and territory.
There are four categories – Rural/Remote Carers, Young Carer, Foster/Kinship Carer and Family Carer. Nominations can be made by community members, family or friends as well as from teachers, GPs, social and childcare workers, community services agencies and carers.
Finalists in each state and territory for each of the four categories will be announced in November and finalists will be invited to the national awards event with the final winners announced in February, 2016. Applications must be received by September 6, 2015 and can be lodged online or by post.
There are an estimated 2.7 million unpaid carers and over 770,000 primary carers in Australia.
