An opportunity to hear about the latest innovations in Universal Design affiliated with inclusive environments. The concept of Universal Design (UD) has become increasingly evident in Australian Government policy and planning. However, there is a lack of information about UD which is about creating environments, products, services and technology that can be used, without modifications, by as many people as possible.
The built environment, which covers housing, public buildings, public spaces and parks, will be the focus at the Adelaide forum with topics including planning, the public domain, housing, tourism, recreation venues and outdoor areas. Expert panels will facilitate collaboration between speakers together with tabletop discussions where delegates can share their knowledge of UD to visitors who will also have the opportunity to network with practitioners at the forefront of UD.
Topics for discussion are:
- City of Adelaide vision and initiatives for UD
- UD in South Australia and where it is headed
- How to achieve a better understanding of UD and its implementation
- Learning from UD examples overseas
- Designing and building homes and environments to be more usable, accessible and safe
- Achieving UD in high density areas
- Industrial design and innovation
- UD for Baby Boomers
There are 15 speakers already confirmed with keynote speakers including Dignity Party MLC, Kelly Vincent; Access Institute director, Joe Manton and JPE Design Studio director and architect, Kaare Krokene Snehetta.
For a valuable exchange of ideas, research and solutions, as well as connections and networks for future innovations in UD in Australia, this forum is the place to be. It will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on October 26, 2017.
