The ATSA Independent Living Expo in Perth is a great opportunity for visitors to find the latest assistive technology (AT), aids and equipment on offer, Independent Living Centre WA (ILCWA), CEO Steve Glew told F2L. ILCWA is supporting the event for its first appearance in WA.
“It aligns with our values of supporting people to be independent, well and safe and to achieve the goals they aspire to reach,” Glew told F2L.
“The great thing about the expo is that it provides something for everyone and is open to visitors of all ages, including those with disability, seniors and their families, friends, carers, allied health professionals and those working in the disability, aged and community care sectors,” he said.
Visitors can expect to be connected with a range of suppliers showcasing practical and innovative products available in the current market.
“We are also excited about the conference education program on offer and with ILCWA delivering presentations on our Making Choices, Finding Solutions consumer resource; AT Chat; Communication Technologies of Now; and My Tech: The Future and Reality of Technology in the Home.
“There has been an overwhelmingly positive response to the expo so far and we are expecting around 800 people to attend,” he said.
The ILCWA is a leading centre of excellence for information, advice and expertise on AT and equipment for seniors and people with disability and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
“Our services have grown over the years and today we are proud to have complemented our AT information and advisory service with allied health services, where individuals can work together with our occupational therapists, speech pathologists and physiotherapists in their own home, school, workplace or community.”
Visitors can go to the ILC stand (#12) and see how to control a computer using their eyes and trial assistive equipment to help with daily living activities, as well as check out NED, the Australian National Equipment Database, and Equip Myself, an app to explore AT through a virtual world.
ATSA Perth will be held at the Silver Jubilee Pavilion, Claremont Showground, May 30-31.
