An innovative hearing aid has taken out the Good Design Award of the Year and a CSIRO Design Innovation Award. The Facett, is the world’s first modular hearing aid, co-designed with hearing aid users, provides unparalleled ease of use, upgradability options and aesthetic appeal. It features magnetic modules that click easily into place, simplifying daily maintenance tasks and empowering people who have dexterity issues and visual impairments with independence.

The judges concurred that: “This product has incredible potential to make a very positive impact on people’s lives who suffer from hearing loss. The use of rechargeable batteries and magnetic coupling is highly innovative. Every detail of this product has been meticulously designed with the end user in mind, right down to the magnetic charging case, colour coded units for each ear and carefully considered design aesthetic.

“This is a world-class product that is extremely well resolved from every perspective. The stunning jewel-like design does well to remove the stigma of hearing aids by drawing parallels to jewellery and wearable art. Exquisite detailing, high-end technology and excellence in design make this a stand-out product.”

The Good Design Awards are Australia’s oldest and most prestigious international awards for design and innovation with this year’s awards attracting a record 536 entries. Winners were presented with their award by special guest Jan Utzon, son of Jørn Utzon, designer of the Sydney Opera House.
