As part of the Australian Government’s mental health response to COVID-19, Independent Community Living Australia has launched eFriend, a free virtual peer support service providing consistent non-clinical, peer-based mental health support during this time. It gives access to six one-on-one sessions with the same peer worker from your home.
A spokesperson told F2L, the service is suitable for people with disability. If the disability is a physical or non-physical, support can be provided to help the client register and navigate the system. “If the client requires a support person to assist or be present for the sessions, it was advisable to mention this on registration. There is a space when registering to add information such as this as a comment.
The service is cost-free to the client, while the peer workers are in paid roles.
