The ACT Government is developing a Disability Strategy intended to create a more welcoming and accessible community over the next 10 years and improve the lives of the more than 80,000 people in Canberra with disability.
There will also be a range of focused discussions throughout May, June and July on topics known to be of interest to Canberran’s with disability and the community. The dates for two has been released:
May 5: Health Care Consumers Association, 100 Maitland Street, Hackett – time to be advised. Register here at Eventbrite
May 9: Pearce Community Centre – time to be advised. Register here at Eventbrite
The strategy will be designed with the voices of people with disability at the forefront and all consultations will be led by people with disability.
Disability Minister Emma Davidson said all consultations will be led by people with disability, to ensure their voices are central to the development and implementation of the strategy.
“We want to hear from people with disability, carers, allies, employers, business owners, service providers and community groups who want Canberra to be more inclusive and would like to see a plan for change,” the minister said. “We ask you to think about what a good life looks like, what the challenges are to having a good life and encourage you to share ideas on how to make it easier for people with disability to live the kind of life they want to live.”
