The inaugural Australian Disability Service Conference and Awards (ADSCA) was one of the biggest events so far this year on the disability calendar. Held at Darling Harbour, Sydney, on April 5 it shone a light on the dedication, passion and innovation of Australia’s disability services sector.
In a night of glitz and glamour, more than 350 people came together to acknowledge 35 remarkable finalists and 12 winners from across Australia. NDIS Shadow Minister Bill Shorten spoke at the event. MCs on the night were seven-time Paralympian wheelchair racer Christie Dawes and three-time Paralympian track and field athlete Don Elgin.
The conference, held during the day, focused on building a disability workforce that sets a benchmark for the rest of the world. Attendees gained insights from leaders in their field to build and enhance their services and businesses to ultimately improve the lives of people with disability.
The conference was opened by NDIS Minister Linda Reynolds. Paralympian Annabelle Williams was the inspiring MC, and Laura O’Reilly co-founder of Hire Up and Fighting Chance, gave a compelling and thought-provoking keynote address.
