What is said to be the largest and most comprehensive assistive technology retail store in Australia has opened in Adelaide, providing people with disability, rehabilitating from injury or surgery, consumables and off-the-shelf products and scripted disability items.
Disability service provider Novita, through its AT business unit NovitaTech, developed the industry-leading retail showroom at Hindmarsh.
“This is a new concept in mobility and independent living solutions, not only for kids, young people and adults living with disability, but also for South Australians in the aged care sector and people rehabilitating from surgery or injury,” Novita CEO Greg Ward said. “It underpins our commitment to innovation and improving outcomes for our clients and their families.”
The store carries more than 1,000 AT equipment items within a 1,000 sqm showroom space. It includes a wheelchair basketball and sports court, fully-equipped homecare displays, and a café operated by participants in Novita’s Transition to Work program aimed at supporting school-leavers with disability to enter the workforce.
Individual and private therapy consultation rooms are another feature of the store, enabling therapists, both Novita-based and external therapists, to meet with clients to discuss devices and equipment.
Novita clients and their families and carers, people living with disability who are not clients, disability and aged care sector workers, allied health professionals and health care providers are welcome .
Customers will be able to compare and trial products and speak with retail and therapy staff about their needs and potential solutions, while equipment prescribers can attend workshops and run therapy sessions in the store’s treatment and consultation rooms.
