Brisbane City Council has launched an audio version of its Living in Brisbane newsletter which will be welcomed by people who have reading difficulties or are visually impaired, allowing them to listen anywhere, anytime.

As well as information about council projects and services it covers details about events occurring in suburbs.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said since releasing A City for Everyone: Inclusive Brisbane Plan 2019-2029, the council has invested nearly $300 million making Brisbane more accessible and inclusive.

“Audiobooks are becoming increasingly popular with 900,000 e-audiobooks downloaded through Brisbane’s libraries last financial year,” he said.

Vision Australia government relations manager Chris Edwards welcomed the initiative. “Making written information available in alternative formats such as audio is one of the many ways organisations can increase accessibility and inclusion,” he said

Leading Australian voiceover artist Sharyn Doolan said she was looking forward to being the voice behind Living in Brisbane Live!  “We are making it easy to catch up with all the amazing things the council does, just by listening,” she said.
