SWEP now require all equipment quotations to comply with the Australian Standard or equivalent. From April 1, 2015, suppliers will need to state that the quoted items meet these standards to ensure efficient supply of safe of quality equipment is maintained. If the product does not meet a required standard, SWEP will not be in a position to purchase the quoted items.
According to SWEP to state that aids and equipment are compliant the item must be put through a series of tests which are intended to replicate situations what are likely to occur when it is being used. For example wheelchairs are tested for their safety at different speeds, gradients, road surfaces and user weights.
