The Para-sport program, the most extensive in Commonwealth Games history is setting a new record with up to 300 athletes competing for 38 medal events across seven sports, with an equal number for men and women.
The Para-sports being contested are athletics, swimming, track cycling, lawn bowls, powerlifting, table tennis and triathlon with swimming and athletics programs double in size from previous Games. Following its increasing profile globally, the para-triathlon makes its debut at the Games and includes swim, bike (hand bike/tandem) and run (wheelchair racing).
As part of the expanded Para-sport program the inaugural wheelchair marathon is also expected to reach a wide audience as it takes to the Gold Coast streets.
