Public consultation on draft Terms of Reference for a Royal Commission into Exploitation of People with Disability has been announced by the Federal Government.

It gives people with disability, their families and carers and other stakeholders the opportunity to have their say, Social Services Minister Paul Fletcher said.

“The Terms of Reference for a Royal Commission must clearly place people with disability at the centre,” the Minister said.

The commencement of the public consultation process follows meetings last week with national peak organisations representing people with disability and the Disability Reform Council, comprising Commonwealth, state and territory governments.

The process also asks what supports are needed for people to fully participate in a Royal Commission once it is up and running.
