The Coalition and Labor have released details of their disability initiatives in the run-up to the election.
There will be a funding boost from the Coalition with a $28 million investment to establish a National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health to improve the health of people with intellectual disability and address the health inequities they face. The Coalition will increase the capabilities of health services and establish a resources and information online portal. A research hub will be also set up for health and disability service providers with program funding to be disbursed through open grant opportunities.
Labor’s Disability Plan includes reviews of the operation and sustainability of the NDIS, a commitment to NDIS design changes by people with disability, increasing the number of people with disability in the National Disability Insurance Agency as senior executives and Board members and funding towards establishing a National Disability Research Partnership and Disability Employment Centre for Excellence.
