Congratulations to the team of Empower Golf’s Ben Tullipan, Tarun Kanji, Shem Aitken and Brent Taprell who won the teams Ambrose competition at the Great Barrier Reef Masters Games. Kanji also won silver in the B Grade 30-49 age competition and Taprell won gold in the C Grade 30-49 age competition, as well as multiple wins in the individual Ambrose competition.
This was the first time that inclusive golf has been included in the Masters Games, which was held at the Empower Golf Hub, Half Moon Bay Golf Club. Empower Golf Cairns coach, Graham Bolton summed the event up: “The team won because they are good golfers, not because they are inclusive players”.
For those who want to try golf but don’t know how to start, golf clinics are the ideal way to introduce people living with a disability to golf for the first time or reintroduce former players to the game.
The next clinics will be held at:
- Port Kembla Golf Club: Friday, July 12, 1pm – 3pm
- The Ridge Golf Club, Barden Ridge: Monday, July 15, 1pm – 3pm
- North Turramurra Golf Course: Monday, July 22, 1pm – 2pm
Clinics include ball and club hire, expert tuition from disability golf pro, Lachy Foulsham, use of adaptive equipment, including the amazing ParaGolfer. Clinics are free for first time participants at all venues and family and friends are welcome to join the group at the clinics.
There are fewer clinic session now as seasonal maintenance is being done at a number of venues, with a number of projects in progress to improve services for the 2019 second half, however a bespoke clinic for group can be arranged.
