Family Planning NSW is seeking parents and carers of adult children (those aged 18 plus) with intellectual disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and adults with intellectual disability and/or ASD for a new, nationwide project.
The organisation is creating resources to help parents and carers of children with disabilities proactively support their children with intellectual disability and/or ASD through puberty. Funded by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the resources will involve an interactive online learning platform, providing access to the latest information, resources and strategies for supporting children through puberty.
Attendees will be asked to share their experiences of supporting their child through puberty, talk about the challenges faced and discuss what helped and what they wish they had known at the time.
To ensure the project’s success the organisation wants to involve both parents and carers and adults as part of its project team. These team members will be required to attend one or two focus groups, with the first being held on March 30. Two sessions will be held, one from 10am to noon and the other from 6pm to 8pm. The sessions will be held as video conferences or people can attend at Family Planning NSW, 328-336 Liverpool Road, Ashfield, Sydney.
Family Planning NSW is also looking to hire adults with intellectual disability and/or ASD as casual staff members to discuss what made puberty difficult for them and/or things that made it easier, what they would have liked to have known when they were going through puberty, and to provide ideas, and to create video and audio content.
