Do you work in an aquatic setting? Western Sydney University is conducting a study on the experiences and practices of supporting people with disability in aquatic and recreation facilities.
“We’re conducting this research to determine the knowledge and readiness of aquatic industry professionals with supporting people with disability to access aquatic and water-based activities,” School of Health Sciences senior lecturer Caroline Mills told F2L. “As the prevalence of disability increases, it’s important that we look at access to various recreational activities in the community for people with disability. We know that participation in these activities is good for well-being and quality of life.
“We’ve identified that there are gaps in the literature with regards to access to aquatic facilities and the knowledge and readiness of aquatics professionals. Our study is attempting to find this information out so that we can make recommendations about things that may increase access and participation for people with disability,” she said. “We don’t know of any other study which has done this.”
The survey which is conducted online via zoom will look to close by the end of July.
