WA disability services provider Cahoots, previously Kids’ Camps Inc., has launched Cahoots Connects, to assist people living with disability to have shopping delivered to their door by trained staff and volunteers.
The initiative is a partnership between the WA State Government, NDS and retailers including Woolworths and is a free service to eligible members of the WA community.
For over 35 years Cahoots Connects has been connecting people in a way that enriches the lives of individuals, families and the community, through supportive and inclusive opportunities, CEO Jess Karlsson said.
“Cahoots is accessible to people with disability, those with other challenges and older Australians, with no formal or informal supports to access essential supplies due to being isolated,” she said.
Cahoots Connects is accessed through a 1300 Call Support Centre, where an experienced team is available to take calls where customers only pay for goods purchased. It offers next day deliveries where possible and a dedicated team will unpack, if required, and is safe to do so.
“At Cahoots Connects we ensure safety through strict COVID-19 processes, safeguarding standards and PPE (personal protective equipment). We follow all government protective guidelines on physical distancing and hygiene and have undertaken Department of Health training in infection control procedures,” operations manager Sophia Stante said.
Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson said the State Government wanted to ensure that quality supports and services are maintained for vulnerable people and their families for the duration of COVID-19.
“Cahoots Connect will help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in WA by providing essential services through a safe and screened workforce, and reduce pressure on health care and medical services by enabling vulnerable people to self-isolate without fear of going without essential items,” the minister said.
