The inaugural Autism Expo, starting this weekend in Canley Vale, NSW, is set to be a landmark event for families and individuals within the autism community.

Founded by Joline George, CEO of Help You Cope and carer of an autistic child, the expo aims to create a trusted environment where attendees can connect with reputable local services and resources. Attracting support organisations from all around Australia and supported by national autism directory Living on the Spectrum, this event marks a significant achievement for local residents.

It is estimated that up to one in 70 people are autistic, making this event crucial for ensuring that autistic individuals and their families can locate the support they need and build genuine networks within their community.

“What motivated me to start this expo was that I felt it’s hard for families within the autism community to find genuine local services. I wanted to create a space under one roof where people can come and learn about authentic local services and resources that can benefit them and support their families. I’m very strict on who I allow at the expo as vendors. Unless they are reputable organisations or I know they are in it for support and not for funds, they don’t make it on the list,” George said.

The event is not just about connecting families with services; it’s also focused on bringing the community together, fostering connections and providing a platform for local performers and organisations to showcase their talents and contributions.

The Autism Expo will be held at Cabra Vale Diggers Club in Canley Vale, NSW, on August 24, from 9 am – 3 pm. Families, carers, professionals, and all those interested in learning more about autism and the resources available are encouraged to attend.
