LG will launch a collection of home appliance accessories embracing universal design that enhance usability for people with disabilities at IFA, an electronics trade show held in Berlin in September.
The Universal UP Kit will carry add-ons comprising detachable solutions for LG washing machines, refrigerators, vacuums and dishwashers, that work with existing LG home appliances.
The Universal UP Easy Handle Kit comes with detachable handles for detergent drawers and doors in the LG washing machine. The handles facilitate accessibility for users with diminished manual dexterity or wrist strength to grasp the washer’s pocket handles. The kit also offers high-contrast colour options to accommodate people with certain eye conditions.
An Assistant Kit includes a detachable wheel strut for easier control of the CordZero stick vacuum. The Easy Hanger Kit has a long handle with a circular grip that allows wheelchair users to effortlessly place clothes on a moving hanger system on the LG Styler.
To assist with creating the kit, LG gathered insights on the experiences and challenges faced by people with hearing or vision impairment and conditions such as cerebral palsy, when using various home appliances. LG took that feedback and applied it to shaping the foundation of the Universal UP Kit, steering the course for future accessibility-led projects.
Availability, pricing and specifications for Australia are still to be confirmed.
