After prolonged discussions and much angst amongst the disability sector the proposal to introduce independent assessments had been abandoned.
Following a meeting with state and territory disability ministers, NDIS Minister Linda Reynolds said she was committed to working with the ministers on a pathway forward. “After eight years of operations, now is the time to take the lessons of the lived experience and turn those lesson into a better NDIS.”
Whilst confirming the independent assessments proposals would not proceed, she said “a new model that would deliver consistency and equity of both access and planning outcomes would be developed.”
According to the minister, further discussions on NDIS legislation including the Participant Service Guarantee, Tune Review recommendations and measures to address fraud and unscrupulous provider practices will take place in the Spring sitting of Parliament.
