People with disability are accessing the NDIS in record time, according to the latest quarterly report. There was also other good news in the data for the first year taken from four trial sites:
- Participant satisfaction remained high with just 19 appeals
- 7316 individual support plans are in place which is 78 per cent of bilateral targets
- The average package costs is $34,600, below the funding expectation of $35,000
- The average time taken to determine eligibility has been reduced to 13.3 days, previously 29.7 days
While early data needed to be approached with caution, an encouraging picture was emerging, said National Disability Insurance Agency, (NDIA) chairman, Bruce Bonyhady.
“What we are seeing is a scheme built on evidence – continually identifying and implementing better ways of doing things and adjusting to its surroundings,” he said. “The time taken for an access decision to be made is testament to this.” He added that the report indicated the experiences of the trial sites and the feedback received was helping to build the NDIS.
