An employer program designed to help businesses attract and retain neurodiverse staff is now available Queensland-wide.

Called Neurodiversity Works, the program is funded by the Queensland Government’s Workforce Connect Fund and delivered by the state’s peak autism body, Autism Queensland. Through a series of workshops, it provides specialised training on topics like understanding neurodiversity, communication and conflict resolution, as well as strategies to create an inclusive workplace.

A session will also focus on recruitment processes designed to assist employers in attracting and onboarding of a more diverse workforce. Additionally, Neurodiversity Works provides direct, one-on-one support for neurodivergent employees and their managers to enhance understanding of individual needs, including guidance on reasonable adjustments that can be made to retain employees and enable them to work at their optimum.

Employment services manager Nina Cash said workshops and supporting resources are customised for each business joining the program.

“Neurodiversity Works is bespoke. Each business and employee we work with benefits from individualised support that works for the business as a whole and the individuals working within it,” she said.

“Our aim is to create a successful outcome for both the employee and the employer.”

The program is currently seeking Queensland businesses to access this funded, specialised service that will help them to become a more inclusive employer. Interested parties can contact the team at NDWorks@autismqld.com.au or by calling 07 3273 0000.
