The Salthouse Community Centre, named after disability advocate Sue Salthouse, has opened in Haigh Park, Canberra.
The single-level centre has a focus on inclusivity in line in line with Sue Salthouse’s legacy and her advocacy for women, particularly those with disability.
Facilities include compliant ground levels to support wheelchair access, two all-ability, gender sensitive bathrooms, with accessible taps, accessible kitchenette with wheelchair-accessible service window and kitchen benches and three accessible car spaces located in the area surrounding the park.
There are shared spaces for creativity, learning and connection that includes a large multi-purpose room, a community room for creative workshops and a meeting room,
There is also a wheelchair-compliant barbecue with picnic tables and a public garden.
