Deaf Children Australia (DCA) has launched a set of programs to promote inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children and young people into local sport and recreation clubs across the country.
The Blueprint range of free and easily accessible resources includes 12 videos featuring DHH kids, parents, coaches and clubs with stories from dancers, swimmers, photographers and Olympic fencers together with downloadable posters and brochures with over 100 sports specific Auslan signs on video.
The resources were developed with DCA Auslan experts and clubs, coaches, families, deaf and hard of hearing children and young people.
There is also a Blueprint toolkit available. This hard copy version for clubs and recreational groups contains additional resources including Auslan flash cards.
A recent DCA survey parents of DHH children expressed concerns around their children’s capacity to integrate into everyday sporting and recreational activities.
DCA is holding a free 45-minute webinar and information session on how to effectively use the resources on July 29 at 6.30pm EST.
