The Younger Onset Dementia Key Worker program will operate in its current format until mid- 2016. Assistant Minister for Social Services, Mitch Fifield, has confirmed funding for the program, that provides individual support to people with early onset dementia and their carers, will continue until June 30, 2016.
The minister was responding to claims by the Leader of the Opposition, Bill Shorten, and Labor MP Shayne Neumann, that the government was ceasing support for the program. The program provides individual support to people with early onset dementia and their carers.
Senator Fifield is currently in discussions with Alzheimer’s Australia about how government support can be best provided and whether adjustments to the previous government’s plans are required.
The former Labor Government decided that all funding under the program would transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
