The national headquarters of the National Disability Insurance Agency has opened in Geelong. The Prime Minister, Tony Abbott was joined by Assistant Minister for Social Services, Mitch Fifield, for the event. The Agency’s move from Canberra to Geelong is a major boost for regional Australia and will employ more than 100 staff in addition to the 120 already employed at the Barwon NDIS trial site.
In his opening remarks, Senator Fifield reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the full rollout of the NDIS. However, the minister added that it was equally important that the scheme was built with sound foundations… “that we learn lessons from the trial sites and the NDIS does stand the test of time.”
