Scuba Gym has expanded its innovative scuba therapy for people with disability, opening at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre dive pool.

Scuba therapist Lyndi Leggett has been conducting the scuba programs at selected centres on the NSW Central Coast and was keen to expand into Western Sydney. She told F2L the weightlessness of diving helps with a range of challenges and disabilities from cognitive to quadriplegia. “We have amputees coming to our scuba gym too,” she said.

“We have had a handwriting change overnight in one of our brain injury clients, feeling return in feet of an MS client who has had MS for 30 years along with improvements in lung function, strength and coordination.”

According to Leggett while there are other organisations who take disabled people underwater, she is not aware of any that can deliver the same results achieved at the Scuba Gym.
