Australian power wheelchair company Magic Mobility has been purchased by international group, Sunrise Medical. Magic Mobility, market leaders in individualised off-road and all-terrain wheelchairs was established in Melbourne in 1994. The acquisition now gives Sunrise Medical, distributors of manual and electric powered wheelchairs, scooters, seating and positioning products, access to the all-terrain category. It also provides Magic Mobility with the opportunity to enter the world market with its tough electric powered wheelchairs that deliver maximum independence to end users.
“Most customers are aware of our brand and it will be business as usual with the opportunity to gain access to overseas markets,” Magic Mobility general manager, Jill Barnett told F2L. She said the acquisition is good news for Australian manufacturers as it gives local talent a career path. “Victoria has lost the big car makers and global companies are also leaving so facilitating the arrival of a manufacturer with the potential to grow is great for the local economy.”
Sunrise Medical CEO, Johan Ek said Magic Mobility will continue to play an increased role in the global electric powered wheelchair marketplace. “With Sunrise, I am excited as to what the future brings. Magic Mobility has a strong and dedicated team headed by excellent management who will continue to run the business along with the new support, resources and experience we have at our disposal.”
