TAFE NSW Bega is partnering with local organisations to host a special event to highlight growing job opportunities in the local caring industry.
Jobs for the Bega Valley will be held TAFE NSW Bega’s Multi Trades Hub on October 27 from 10am. It will bring together a number of disability and aged care organisations and give jobseekers an insight into the wide range of positions available.
TAFE NSW ageing and disability team leader Michelle Watters said Jobs for the Bega Valley would be a relaxed morning tea event.
“It will help locals get a running start into these industries which are booming at the moment and TAFE NSW students routinely get employed before even graduating, which means they earn while they learn,” Watters said. “There is such a wide variety of jobs available, and you are making a tangible difference in a person’s life, which is very satisfying.”
Certificate III in Individual Support for ageing and disability were being offered fee-free under JobTrainer and provided flexible study options, she said.
TAFE NSW teachers and local employers would be at the event to answer locals’ questions and help guide them on a pathway to a rewarding career.
A Bega dad whose entire family is living with a disability took a professional leap of faith in the middle of the pandemic and enrolled in a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) at TAFE NSW Bega. Jamie Cutajar who has a mild intellectual disability secured a paid role as a disability support worker at Disability Trust a few weeks before graduating and hasn’t looked back.
He said the one-on-one tuition he received from TAFE NSW Bega community services teacher Steve Reed had been the difference in him completing the course. “I learned so much about the skills I needed to succeed in the job, such as confidentiality and handling difficult clients.”
Reed urged locals to consider a career in disability, saying a growing skills gap in the industry meant jobs were plentiful.
Enrolments were now open for the Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) at TAFE NSW Bega, with the course running for 12 months each Monday and Wednesday during term between 9.30am and 1.30pm.
