Another helpful tool for the blind or vision impaired has been released by Braille House. This new QR Code tactile indicator allows users to find a QR code for scanning independently.
Until now, someone else had to help those with vision impairment by guiding their hand, with their phone in it, to scan the code.
The new QR Code tactile indicator is a sticker that is placed over the QR Code that reads “Please scan the QR code below” and has a tactile square to indicate where the QR Code is.
Braille House general manager, Richard Baker said: “Providing small supports like the QR Code Indicator is important for people with low or no vision to live with independence and dignity, this is something that should be important for our society as a whole,” he said. “It may seem like a small thing to everyone else, but for a person who is blind or has low vision, this is a big step towards knowing that they are included because contact tracing is very important to keep everyone safe and not just sighted people”.
Braille House empowers people who are blind or have low vision to be literate and to be able to read whatever they want. These tiny dots support them to live independently, attain their desired level of education, increase their chances for employment and enable them to interact within their communities just like everyone else.
The stickers are available to anyone in Australia at a cost of $3 (ex GST) and there is no delivery fee.
