The Australian Network on Disability has broadened the eligibility criteria for its Stepping Into Program that connects university students with disability to employers looking for interns.

Currently open to students in their second last or final year of university, the program is now open to recent university graduates, who have completed a university degree within the past three years.

“More employers are looking for pipelines of skilled and talented candidates with disability, and this development will allow more university degree-qualified individuals to connect with business,” Australian Network on Disability program manager Isabel Heiner said.

The program, which has been running since 2005 has seen over 2000 university students gain paid internships with over 170 of Australia’s leading employers.

Twice a year the Australian Network on Disability recruit university students who meet employers’ job descriptions. The students complete an internship either during their winter or summer semester break to gain practical experience and confidence in the workplace.

Students do a minimum of 152 hours, either as a four-week full-time block or flexibly across a longer period.  They work at the organisation’s head office or branch locations giving them a chance to experience a range of tasks and project challenges.

Internship job descriptions are available under: students and jobseekers – Start an internship

Applications for employers to find Winter 2023 interns open on January 16, 2023. Contact the programs team at applications@and.org.au or PH: 02 8270 9200
