The Obi robotic feeding device has been designed to mimic the human arm during eating and allows users who require an eating aid to eat independently. This user-friendly, smart and stylish companion uses smooth movements and sits inconspicuously within a dinner placemat.
It combines cutting edge technology with a stylish, lightweight design and intuitive controls that allows food to be repositioned easily for optimum food pickup and minimises food spills.
Obi allows the user to regain a feeling of confidence and independence with the option to choose the food they prefer to eat as well as being able to eat at their own pace. It also has social advantages, giving users the opportunity to have contact with others when eating.
The device is being rolled out by the Brisbane Mater Hospital’s in-home and community healthcare service, Mater at Home, to assist patients with motor neurone disease.
